Greenville's caffeine scene is second to none! With so many great shops and spots to sample and share a great cup (or two), it's easy to see why I needed to stretch out my "Cup-a-Day" Tea and Coffee Crawl to last for a whole week!
Hop over to Coffee & Crema on the corner of Main and Washington (they've also got a spot in the Haywood Mall) to kick-start your Monday morning! Don't be fooled by the size of this walk-up coffee shop, because what they offer is specialty coffee with a keen attention to detail. Each barista at Coffee & Crema is trained to expertly craft espresso-based beverages using Counter Culture coffee (a regional roaster with a meaningful mission).
Should you choose to add a flavor, all of their syrups are handcrafted, as well! Insider's Tip: It's not on the menu, but order an "Italiano" to really taste and experience your espresso! Need some help navigating that flavor profile? Ask a barista... they'll be happy to talk coffee with you!
Need a little pick-me-up after lunch? Treat yourself by stopping by O-CHA Tea Bar for an Almond Vanilla Milk Tea. While you're there, be sure to pick up some of their amazing loose-leaf tea to take home with you! Insider's Tip: For a creative tea experience, add tapioca pearls or jellies to your O-CHA Tea Bar order!
Stroll and sip your tea as you peruse the shops at Art Crossing at RiverPlace (right next door to O-CHA Tea Bar) and admire the Reedy River. If coffee is what you crave, head up the stairs by Halls Chophouse to Main Street and cross at the light to find Spill The Beans. This local favorite has a really great Café Mocha! If you need a break from caffeine for a bit, try one of their blended ice cream creations in a house-made waffle cone... YUM!
It's the middle of the week! Why not celebrate by catching a performance at The Peace Center for the Performing Arts? Better yet, why not come out a bit early and grab a cup o' Joe before the show? Across the street from The Peace Center is an adorable niche coffee spot - Brew & Ewe. This quiet shop also houses a boutique where you can find bright, hand-knitted socks, soft felt hats, and more wooly treasures. Order a French Press for two along with a bagel with lox and just hang out until your show starts! You'll be alert... and on time for the performance!
Say, "Bonjour" to Thursday with a stop at LeGrand Bakery for a cup of coffee and a few authentic French baked goods! Order their "French Breakfast" for a tasty treat. It includes coffee (but, of course), a little baguette, and butter and jam - the perfect fuel for a day of antiquing on Augusta Road! On second thought... treasure hunting can be hard work, so you'd better grab a second cup o' Joe to go! Insider's Tip: If you're more of a later-morning person, try LeGrand's awesome brunch menu, featuring their authentic French quiches, sandwiches and salads!
Nothing helps close out a caffeine-centered week like a night downtown and a romantic rendezvous at the ever-cozy Coffee Underground. Find a seat in a corner booth and enjoy a slice of deep-dish pie and a "hot cocktail" like their Nutty Irishman (a latte with Jameson Whisky and Frangelico). Insider's Tip: Coffee Underground is also home to an intimate theater where, depending on the night, you might be treated to a poetry reading, and improv show, or a little stand-up comedy! Check their online events calendar for details.
