Did you know you can take your taste buds on a trip around the globe without ever leaving downtown Greenville? Whether you're a welcome visitor staying in one of our many great hotels, or a local foodie looking to try some new tastes, my favorite spots for a weekend of world flavors won't disappoint!
Friday Evening:Begin your flavor-filled weekend at The Wine Café at Northampton Wines, located off Main Street on E. Broad Street. Their menu offers exciting new options each month, but the real draw for me is their full inventory of wines from around the world! The expert Sommelier will help you find something perfect to accompany your meal or to enjoy at home. Insider's Tip: Be sure to sign up ahead of time for one of their "Friday Tastings," to enjoy an hour-long wine tasting class before your meal. Upcoming class descriptions are posted on their website.
Saturday Lunch:The exotic tastes of Persia can be found at Pomegranate on Main. Their courtyard area has a soothing waterfall and offers a great view for people-watching along Main Street. Order a glass of wine and a Sampler Trio (I prefer the Hummus, Borani Spinach and Kashk Bademjam) with warm pita bread. Then, try the Grilled Chicken Kabob Sandwich Wrap or the Salmon Salad, which features salmon cubes marinated in citrus and herbs, then grilled until crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside...my favorite seafood dish in town!
Saturday Dinner:End day two with an authentic Northern Italian meal at Ristorante Bergamo. The Pappardelle con Porcini is my favorite pasta dish in Greenville. It's simple perfection (house-made pasta, olive oil, garlic and porcini mushrooms) and a "can't miss" pick! Reservations are a must, so plan ahead! Insider's Tip: Be sure to try Chef Nello's own special recipe Limoncello. Actor George Clooney enjoyed some when he was in town!
Sunday Morning:Wrap up your world flavors weekend and bring it back stateside by enjoying hometown tastes with brunch at Rick Erwin's Nantucket Seafood. Great dishes here include their Blue Crab Omelet, The Company Crab Cake Benedict, and the Salmon BLT.
THAT Something Extra:
How about some four-wheelin' flavor?
The food truck scene in Greenville is up-and-coming...and full of flavor! Grab a great meal from local trucks like ASADA and end with a sweet treat from the Chocolate Moose truck!
Enjoy a slice of the Big Apple!
For a taste of authentic, hand-tossed, New York pizza, try Tito's on N. Pleasantburg Drive. The décor is old-school casual, complete with wood-paneled walls, laminated tables and neon signs. A great place to enjoy a cold beer and a hot slice!
