While there are many options for relaxation in Greenville, I can’t think of any better way to unwind after a long week than by fueling up on some great food, hitting the road, getting out into the fresh air, and heading out onto the water for a little paddle boarding and nature with my loyal companion—my dog, Bentley.

First Stop:

Breakfast at Tommy’s Country Ham House!  Although Bentley can’t join me for this first stop, I make sure to load up on good food for our fun day together.  My favorites are the pancakes, chicken sausage and egg whites (you have to add a little “healthy” to balance out those amazing pancakes!).  After breakfast, I pick up Bentley, and we’re off for our relaxing day of adventure!  Insider’s Tip:  Tommy’s only accepts cash or checks (no debit or credit cards), so plan ahead for your meal at this legendary Greenville restaurant!

Second Stop:

We head straight to One With The Ride, an island surf shop in the mountains (who knew?).  This cool paddle boarding and wake surfing specialty shop is a short ride from Greenville on Highway 133 in Sunset, SC.  It provides kayaks, paddle board rentals, lessons and tours for local outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy the Upstate’s many lakes and rivers—just like me and Bentley!

Third Stop:

After some happy barking and tail-wagging, we decide on a stand-up paddle board tour and put in at Lake Keowee, part of the breathtaking Keowee-Toxaway State Natural Area.  The views of the majestic mountains are beautiful and relaxing and Bentley enjoys riding on the board with me!  We make our way to the Cabana Club at the Lighthouse on Keowee, where we enjoy eating in the outdoors with fellow paddle boarders (and a plus for us…it’s Fido friendly)!

Last Stop:

After our relaxing time on the lake, we enjoy the beauty of the mountain scenery as we head back to Greenville to end the day at one of Bentley’s favorite places to play!  Cleveland Park is always a weekend stop for us, as there is plenty of space for Bentley to explore and pal around with his fur friends.  Insider’s Tip:  For extra dog-focused fun, let your best friend run free inside Canine Corner, a great dog park located just across from Cleveland Park on Woodland Way Circle!

THAT Something Extra:

Pet-perfect meeting place:
The Barkery Bistro on Augusta Street is Bentley’s go-to stop for tasty treats!  He always meets new friends there when we stop by!

Outdoor gear throughout the year:
Another great place for outdoor enthusiasts to “gear up” for adventure—or relaxation—throughout the year is Sunrift Adventures in Travelers Rest.  Check out the events schedule on their website for information on upcoming demos, clinics and group outings!
