Oconee Station State Historic Site

Oconee Station Historic Site, just off SC 11 (Cherokee Foothills National Scenic Highway), offers both recreational activities and a unique look at 18th and 19th century South Carolina. The station served as an outpost for the S.C. State Militia in the 1790s. A stone blockhouse and the William Richards House are the only two structures that remaining from that bygone era.

In addition to its historical significance, Oconee Station also has plenty of recreational opportunities. The park's 4-acre pond is great for fishing for both blue-gill and largemouth bass. The park also has a 1.5-mile nature trail that connects hikers to Station Cove Falls, a lovely 60-foot waterfall nestled in Sumter National Forest. The trail blooms to life every spring with a dazzling array of wildflowers including mayapples, redbuds, and pink lady's slipper orchids.

Visitors looking for a longer getaway can stay overnight at the nearby Oconee State Park campground and enjoy two great South Carolina parks in the same trip!
