A Note to Tomorrow: Paintings and Poetic Musings by Maggie Macdonald
A Note to Tomorrow is an exhibition of 28 new paintings and complementary poems by Spartanburg-based artist Maggie Macdonald. Maggie graduated with a BA in Studio Art from Converse College in 2018 and has been painting, creating, and traveling since. She makes large-scale abstract art inspired by the movement of the ocean and by the intricacies of human interaction. Her pieces, often accompanied by poetic or literary elements, share the stories of her current reality; of what it is to be human. Her signature style of vast fields of color soaked into raw canvas and linen have been shown in galleries and presented at art shows all-over the States. Her mixed media paintings often include materials such as paint, chalk, pastel, felt, thread, and found papers offering a wondrous layering of textures and intricacies. Each one of her paintings is accompanied by an original poem written as a way to capture memories of her personal experiences with emotions such as love, loss, joy, and mourning.
These poetic inclusions serve as a background to each abstract work and as a literary roadmap to the mind of the artist, aiding to expose a piece of her heart in each pairing of visual and written work.
