ACCELERATE U POP UP CAMP: BBQ University (9-12th graders)
If smoky barbecue treats and classic Southern cooking speak to your soul, register for Greenville Tech's BBQ University! This Accelerate U program is designed to give you the skills you need to master a variety of grilling techniques, from slow-cooked pulled pork and juicy barbecue chicken to mouthwatering beef brisket. In addition to learning how to use a barbecue grill from start to finish, you'll also get to make your own rubs and sauces along with delicious Southern side dishes like mac and cheese, corn pudding, coleslaw and homemade pickles. To complete each menu, Chef Bill will walk you through the techniques that turn Southern staples like banana pudding and fresh fruit cobbler into show-stopping desserts. At the end of each class day, you'll learn important culinary life skills to prepare you for cooking on your own, including how to create a food budget, how to repurpose leftovers into new dishes, and how to shop for the ingredients you need. This program also teaches essential skills like safe food handling and sanitation.
