Alicia Armstrong (Asheville, N.C.) paints memories, longings, dreams, and inconsistencies. A single work often incorporates the questions posed by contrasts, both literal and conceptual, while capturing the inescapable and dichotomous realities of life. At the same time Armstrong offers viewers transient relief from turmoil and a moment of respite and contemplation rather than finite solutions. Armstrong holds a BFA with a concentration in Painting from the University of North Carolina at Asheville. After a decade working in traditional painting and photographic portraiture, she began to concentrate on creating the abstract paintings she is known for today.
