Book & a Beer with Tessa Fontaine
We’re bringing together a couple of our favorite pastimes for a laid-back approach to a literary happy hour. Book and a Beer pairs up authors talking about their books and our favorite beer guy, Brett Barest, talking about a new beer. We’re pretty sure these stories are going to complement each other.
This month, we’ll be joined by Spartanburg writer Tessa Fontaine, and her spectacular new book, The Electric Woman: A Memoir In Death-Defying Acts. When her mother had a series of strokes, Tessa fell into the daily drama of caretaking and worry for a terminally ill parent. But in her own death-defying act, her mother decided to take a last trip to Italy, freeing Tessa to follow her own path. She joined a traveling carnival sideshow, finding out that there’s really just one lesson that applies to living through illness, keeping the show on the road, letting go of the person you love most, and eating fire:
“The trick is there is no trick. You eat fire by eating fire.”
This is going to be a fascinating night. Absolutely free.
