Gold Medal Winners at the Carolina Music Museum! Callisto wins the Fischoff Competition!

Thursday, May 24, 7:30 PM

Fischoff goes to Callisto

No, it didn’t happen at Lake Hartwell, but it did happen in Notre Dame, Indiana. One of the most prestigious competitions in chamber music, The Fischoff, was held this past Sunday and The Grand Prize Winner and Gold Medal Winner, along with $10,000, was awarded to the Callisto Quartet. Greenville can hear these very talented musicians, including first violinist, Paul Aguilar, a graduate of Greenville’s Fine Arts Center, Thursday, May 24 at 7:30, in the newly opened Carolina Music Museum on Heritage Green in downtown Greenville.

The Fischoff competition is the nation’s largest, each year, an average of 125 ensembles, representing 22 nationalities, enter in either the wind or string categories of three to six performers. Since its founding, more than 6,800 musicians have participated, many of whom have gone on to distinguished careers in music performance and education.

The Callisto Quartet also won the Senior Strings Division in the competition and will conduct an American concert tour and will appear at the Emilia Romagna Festival in Italy.  They are the only American quartet--and the youngest quartet of eight in the competition--that has been invited to participate in the Melbourne International Chamber Music Competition this summer. They were formed at the Cleveland Institute of Music and have been playing together for only two years.

Playing a program of Haydn, Debussy and Beethoven, in the intimate setting of this new museum, an evening with the Callisto Quartet surely will be a musical event to be remembered.  Tickets on sale now and, with only 80 seats available, we urge everyone to make their reservations early. $20 for adults, $15 for students with ID’s. With just 80 seats available you are urged to call 520-8807 to make your reservations. The concert will begin at 7:30.

The Callisto Quartet appears at the Carolina Music Museum through the generosity of Jeanet Dreskin.
