Chautauqua History Alive Festival: COURAGE

Get ready to laugh, cry and flat out have a great time at this ten-day – two-weekend festival of non-stop live history and fun for the whole family. 30 shows performed in costume by nationally acclaimed historical interpreters. And all the shows are FREE.

Meet five courageous people – hear their stories – and ask them how they endured.
• Fight the British with Francis Marion, the Swamp Fox
• Join Harriet Tubman on the Combahee River Raid to free the slaves
• Follow Clara Barton onto the battlefield
• Go to jail for woman’s suffrage with Alice Paul
• Stand with Winston Churchill – and never surrender

There’s nothing like the experience outdoors under the Chautauqua tent or in a beautiful park on a summer evening. But if you like your Chautauqua experience indoors in air-conditioned comfort, they have that, too.

You'll laugh – you'll cry – you'll have lots of questions. And they’ll be answered. Bring your stories. Share your experiences. Get inspired. Because it’s not just history – it’s personal.

Shows start at various times.
Talks are at 9am.
Daytime shows on weekends are at 2pm and during the week at 11:30am.
Evening shows under the Tent in Greenville are at 7:30pm. In Spartanburg and Asheville at 7pm - in Travelers Rest at 8:00pm
