Essentials of Clinical Supervision

Presenter: Dr. Lorell Gordon, CACII, LPCS, LMFT,



This training will focus on essential topics in clinical supervision for new and practicing supervisors in an overview format to enhance their effectiveness as a clinical supervisor. Emphasis will be placed on the role of the relationship in supervision and the role of multicultural issues in supervision.


1.             Gain an understanding of the ethical and legal issues involved in clinical supervision.

2.             Review and discuss various models of supervision.

3.             Become familiar with various methods and techniques for clinical supervision.

Dr. Lorell Gordon, CACII, LPCS, LMFT, is a Licensed Professional Counselor in private practice, working primarily with adults, providing psychotherapy and psychological evaluations.  She has worked with various agencies to include working with a group practice, solo practice, and in military settings. She has also been involved with the Forrester Center (formerly SADAC) for several years (1991 – 2005) working with various programs such as, Alcohol and Drug Safety Program, Offender-Based Intervention, recovery groups, Employee Assistance Program, screening for detention orders and designated examiner for probate court.  Dr. Gordon has been a CACII since 1997 and a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor since 2008.  She is also a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. Dr. Gordon serves as adjunct faculty for Gardner Webb University and Capella University. She earned a Ph.D. from the University of South Carolina in Counselor Education and has completed graduate degrees in the counseling field from Winthrop University and Converse College. Dr. Gordon’s research interest is the civilian mental health clinician’s readiness to work with military members and their families.

Employees of Region 1 301 Agencies (A/OBHS, BHSPC, CCCADA, The Forrester Center, HealthyU, Phoenix Center, Cornerstone, Westview, Saluda, Gateway, plus Spartanburg Area Mental Health Center and Anderson/Oconee/Pickens Mental Health) may attend monthly Region 1 trainings at no charge; however, registration is needed in advance and is on a first come/first served basis.
