Gilead Mishory in Concert
The Furman University Department of Music will host Distinguished Visiting Professor and guest pianist Gilead Mishory in concert Monday, Oct. 22, at 8 p.m. in Daniel Recital Hall on the Furman campus.
The event, which is open to the public, is a Sound Quality Series Concert. Tickets are $15 for adults, $10 for seniors 60 and up, and $5 for students. A reception follows the recital.
Professor at the University of Music in Freiburg, Germany, Mishory will perform Debussy's Préludes Book I. His recording (Neos) of the same has received critical acclaim for its pianistic subtlety, sensitive phrasing and vivid characterization. He will also perform his latest collection of quirky children's pieces “Grandma and I.”
Mishory was born in 1960 in Jerusalem and studied at the Rubin Academy. He performs solo, with orchestras and with renowned chamber music partners in Europe, the United States, Japan, Korea and Israel. His wide-ranging repertoire includes all musical styles with a special emphasis on the music of the 20th and 21st centuries.
Mishory is the first pianist to have recorded the complete piano works and chamber music with piano by Leos Janácek. Other projects have won high praise and include his own compositions and works by Haydn, Brahms and Bartók, in addition to numerous radio recordings.
