Art & Light Gallery is pleased to present Ourselves a solo exhibition of work by Kate Hooray Osmond (Charleston, S.C.) launching on the Art & Light website and in the gallery at 10am (EST) on Tuesday, February 4 with an opening reception on Friday, February 7 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM.  

Kate Hooray Osmond is an interdisciplinary artist whose work explores experiential acceptance. Osmond’s work has been featured in Introspective Magazine, Hyperallergic, Art and Cake LA, Shoutout Atlanta, ArtMag, and Charleston Magazine. Osmond was named the State Fellow for South Carolina (South Arts) and a Visiting Artist at the Gibbes Museum of Art. Her paintings have been included in the Biennial by the Center for Contemporary Art of South Carolina, the LaGrange Southeast Regional, and as a finalist for the 701 CCA Prize. Kate Hooray Osmond earned an MFA in Studio Art from Maryland Institute College of Art and a BA from Saint Mary's College of Maryland. She is best known for large-scale paintings with bold colors and layered material approaches and surfaces. Her paintings are inspired by source images she takes from aerial views of the landscape. One of Osmond's favorite aspects about viewing a city from above is the juxtaposition of the natural and the man-made. 

In Ourselves Osmond considers the impossibility of everything, exploring themes of time, perception, and language through landscape painting. She begins each piece as an open-ended process without a preconceived course to completion. As Osmond works she responds to a series of impulses and experiences, always appreciating the fragile perfection of human life. Kate Hooray Osmond states, “I see a world where definitions and foundations are increasingly dissolute. A world of complete energy: change, abundance, sorrow, creation and destruction. I am embracing everything in order to see the complete balance of existence and to learn peace in a climate when nothing lasts.”
