Molly Mansfield, Rachel Nerney and Megan Trueblood
October 31: First Friday and Artist Reception 6:00 - 8:00pm
Molly Mansfield (Austin, T.X.) explores the spaces we inhabit in oil paint applied in a wet into wet approach, laying down gestural brush strokes often leaving some areas more developed than others. The unfinished quality of her paintings is a bit messy, rather like the journey that we are on as humans. Molly’s practice is one of observation, but also imagination. She paints primarily from life, using her experiences, surroundings, and generational history as a starting point. Her still life paintings often focus on the table—a gathering place and a place for connection, sharing, and vulnerability. She typically creates a composition using family heirlooms: dishes, vintage fabrics, half finished quilts of women from past decades.
Rachael Nerney (Charleston, S.C.) is a painter, muralist, and illustration designer. Her artwork captures fleeting moments through vibrant color, light, and pattern. Her goal is to spread joy and foster connection in communities through her work. In 2013, Rachael earned her BFA in Illustration from the Savannah College of Art and Design. After graduation, she worked as an in-house artist and sign maker at several Whole Foods Markets in New England for four years. Since moving to Charleston over 6 years ago, Rachael has established her unique voice in the art community. She was honorably selected as the 2020 poster artist for the Charleston Farmers Market. Her vibrant murals adorn the walls of multiple restaurants (Park & Grove, The Tippling House, and Rancho Lewis), community buildings (Bees Ferry Library and the R.L. Jones Center in Mount Pleasant), and businesses (The Miller Gallery and Matchstick Social). Rachael lives and works in Charleston, where she can usually be found sifting through stands of the farmers market planning her next meal.
Megan Trueblood is a mother and artist residing in Orem, UT. Finding beauty in the familiar and the everyday, her work is meant to inspire peace and provide a respite from the chaos of our busy lives. She is interested in the interaction of color and the use of negative space, and explores both in her current body of work. Megan received her BFA from Brigham Young University, where she has also taught as an adjunct professor.
