RENAISSANCE - MONTEVERDI AND MERLOT

Welcome to the Renaissance - Tudor architecture, merry minstrels, and the arts! The Renaissance was truly the age of rebirth and discovery, bridging the Middle Ages and modern history. The age of enlightenment was best known for such polymaths as Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo, who inspired the term "Renaissance Man”. The first opera was composed in 1600 by Peri followed by Monteverdi’s L’Orfeo seven years later. Join us and be enlightened!

Did you know?

Born to an apothecary on May 5, 1567, Claudio Giovanni Antonio Monteverdi spent most of his life around the church, composing large volumes of sacred music and later becoming a priest following his wife’s death. Monteverdi was pivotal in the shift from Renaissance to Baroque styles. Translated into English, Monteverdi means “green mountain” or maybe Greenville!

Merlot means “the little blackbird” in French and is the second most popular red grape in America.
