Water Striders Family Camp
Lake Conestee Nature Preserve is partnering with ReWa (Renewable Water Resources) to offer an educational and fun exploration of water quality in the Saluda/Reedy Watershed. This three day long day camp is open to family groups with children ages 8 and up. Your family will learn how water quality is assessed in the field as well as in the ReWa laboratory! The staff at LCNP will lead you in activities to enhance your scientific observation skills, watershed conservation knowledge, and water quality assessment. You will get to explore LCNP as well as travel to field sites at Falls Park and the northern end of Greenville to sample water quality.
During this camp, adults and children are active participants. The history of the Saluda/Reedy Watershed is complex and they plan to engage the adults as well as the children in scientific inquiry that fits all ages and educational backgrounds. Come to them ready to learn and prepared to be involved in every activity!
The activities and content are best suited for ages 8 and up. Family groups will work together during activities and direct interaction with other family groups will be limited. You decide who your family group contains. All participants will be responsible for their own transportation to and from the sampling sites.
Drop offs are NOT allowed. All participants must be part of a group. Families with children younger than 8 years old are asked to find alternative arrangements for the younger children. They want everyone to be engaged and learning with them as a group.
