Year of the Bird: Painting!
National Geographic, The National Audobon Society, and over 150 other organizations have declared 2018 the Year of the Bird. This is to commemorate the Migratory Bird Treaty Act's 100th year! Lake Conestee Nature Park is well known in the birding community for it's diverse array of bird species. To date 219 different species of birds have been counted in the park; most of which are migratory species. To help celebrate this milestone in conservation and to bring awareness to the birds at LCNP there will be several bird related public programs this fall. They hope you will join them!
The first of their programs to celebrate birds will be an art in nature experience! This is an instructional painting class like you would find at the "Wine and Design" places around Greenville (alcohol not permitted). Samantha will walk you through the painting stroke by stroke so no artistic experience is necessary! Check back to the event page (click the "website" button) for a picture of the painting Samantha has chosen for you to do.
Samantha Bell will be the instructor for this art in the park experience. She is a children's writer and illustrator and mom of four great kids. She's also taught drawing and painting to children and adults for the past twenty years. Her favorite subject to paint: wildlife! She still can't decide on a favorite medium -- she loves them all!
