Greenville Chautauqua Society

Chautauqua: It's history - alive! Watch people you have only read about in history books appear on stage in free, interactive theatre. Laugh with Mark Twain, get arrested with Rosa Parks, walk the Trail of Tears, and debate the Constitution with its authors.

The annual mid-June Festival offers ten-days - two-weekends of live history and nonstop fun for the whole family! Five different shows performed by nationally acclaimed historical interpreters and other events . Morning discussions with performers, daytime shows indoors and evenings outdoors under the Chautauqua tent – And it's all FREE!

They also produce a mini-Chautauqua mid-February, monthly virtual performances throughout the year and present programs at local community organizations.

More than history. More than a performance. More than a story. They are Chautauqua, a nonprofit, experiential oral tradition that brings history to life through interactive theater and compelling discussion aimed at stimulating critical thinking.

As a non-profit dedicated to bringing history to life, the events are and always will be free, fun, and family-friendly. Get ready to laugh, cry, and have an all-around good time. Join them in making history.
