“Celebrating Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Baroque Music” Events

Friday-Saturday, May 10-11, 2024
In May, SC Bach is bringing to you an incredible weekend exploring Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in Baroque music! It will explore the forgotten history of composers and performers who came from diverse background in the eighteenth century. Our guides through these events, Louise Toppin, Soprano and Tyrese Byrd, Tenor, have done impeccable research and are brining these pieces and stories to life.

Friday, May 10th at 7pm:

Film Screening of "Chevalier" - S.C. Bach will highlight overlooked chapters in classical music history with a screening of "Chevalier," a film portraying the journey of a Creole musician who attained eminence in the court of Louis XVI through the admirations of Queen Marie-Antoinette. Marie-Antoinette gave him the knighthood distinction based on his skills as a violinist. The story highlights the tensions of the monarchy just before the revolution and the racial prejudice of the time.
