Greenville County Museum of Art

The Greenville County Museum of Art in Greenville, South Carolina, is home to a nationally acclaimed collection of American art that ranges from Federal portraits to modern masters, including major holdings of work by two of the greatest artists in the nation’s history, Andrew Wyeth and Jasper Johns.

"Andrew Wyeth: The Greenville Collection" is now the largest and the most complete collection of Andrew Wyeth watercolors owned by any public museum in the world and includes such highlights as "Four Poster," "Jacklight," and "Whale Rib."

The GCMA also owns an extensive collection of original paintings and prints by America’s most renowned contemporary artist, Jasper Johns, who grew up in South Carolina.

The GCMA permanent collection explores the breadth of American art. Among its highlights are an important group of pre-Civil War vessels created by the enslaved African-American potter and poet David Drake and an exceptional collection of works by African-American artists, including a large group of works by modernist William H. Johnson, a native of South Carolina.

The museum boasts broad collections of American Impressionism and Charleston Renaissance works in addition to works by such artists as Mary Cassatt, Georgia O'Keeffe, Robert Duncanson, Frank Duveneck, and Kara Walker.
