South Carolina New Play Festival

The SC New Play Festival will occur Aug 10-13. During the weekend, readings of new plays and musicals will be presented, and the festival will culminate in a Broadway Cabaret featuring Miguel Cervantes (Hamilton, American Idiot).

The festival will kick off on Thursday, August 10, with a presentation of "The Game", which combines mind-blowing illusions with high-quality dances.

On Friday, August 11, the Greenville Theatre will host "A Black-billed Cuckoo". A comedy that follows a close-knit birding group in Brooklyn's Prospect Park.

Saturday, August 12, features "Kween" at the Warehouse Theatre. This play follows a queer Cambodian American teen's journey to find her voice after her dad's deportation.

Also on Saturday, August 12, the Peace Center's Gunter Theater will showcase "The Essential Alice," a musical adaptation of "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland." Featuring music by the late Michael Friedman, the play is directed by two-time TONY winner Des McAnuff.

Finally, on Sunday, August 13, the South Carolina Children's Theatre will present "Catching the Moon: The Story of a Young Girl's Baseball Dream". This musical tells the true story of the first Black woman to play for a professional baseball team.

The festival will conclude on Sunday, August 13, with a Broadway Cabaret featuring Hamilton's Miguel Cervantes at the Westin Poinsett Ballroom.
