The Greenville Symphony, celebrating its 77th year, features 67 professional musicians, the orchestra presents nearly 40 ticketed concerts and many free community events annually.
This season, welcoming Music Director Lee Mills, begins with Beethoven’s 9th Symphony in a historic collaboration with Bob Jones, Furman, and North Greenville University choruses. The Concert Hall Series features works by Beethoven, Mary Lou Williams, Schumann, Amy Beach, Grieg, Tchaikovsky, and Duke Ellington.
The Gunter Theatre series includes beloved classics: Peter and the Wolf with narration by actor Mimi Wyche, a collaboration with the Furman Percussion Ensemble, Mozart’s The Marriage of Figaro, and a Bach-inspired program with Principal Viola Kathryn Dey.
Special events include the December Holiday at Peace, a family Christmas tradition sponsored by United Community, and the return of Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban™ with a live score by the Symphony, sponsored by Kyocera AVX.
For an intimate experience, choose Music at Hotel Hartness or Music in the Grey Loft, featuring programs like Philip Glass’s Dracula Suite narrated by Dacre Stoker. The Symphony’s education programs reach over 25,000 children annually, with events like Pop-Up Music! and summer camps supported by Prisma Health and the South Carolina Arts Commission, bringing music to diverse spaces across the Upstate.
