A first-timer's guide to 3 unforgettable nights in one of the South's most vibrant cities
Disclosure: This trip was hosted in partnership with VisitGreenvilleSC as part of a press trip. Accommodations, meals, and experiences were provided. All opinions, recommendations, and enthusiasm are entirely our own — we only share what we genuinely loved.
Let me be honest with you: we almost didn't go. Greenville, South Carolina wasn't exactly on our radar — it wasn't the beach destination we'd been dreaming about, and it certainly didn't have the big-city buzz of Atlanta or Charlotte. But something nudged us to give it a shot, and within hours of arriving, we were texting friends: "Why did no one tell us about this place?"
Three nights. Four days. And Greenville didn't just meet our expectations — it completely shattered them. Here's a full breakdown of our trip, from the must-eat restaurants and stunning natural escapes to the little insider details that made every moment count. Trust us: by the end of this post, you'll be booking your trip.
First Impressions: A City That Rewrites the Rulebook
Greenville used to be defined by its past as a major hub of the American textile industry. Today, it's been reinvented into one of the South's most celebrated urban success stories — attracting global powerhouses like BMW, Michelin, and GE while simultaneously nurturing a walkable, artsy downtown that feels nothing like your average mid-sized American city. Furman University and Bob Jones University anchor a strong academic community, and with a mild climate and an affordable cost of living, it's no wonder Greenville consistently ranks among the best places to live and visit in the entire country.
But statistics don't capture the feeling of actually being there. This is a city with a soul — and we felt it from the moment we stepped out onto Main Street.
The Itinerary:
Wednesday: Arriving in Style & Discovering the Village
Back to TopDay 1: Arriving in Style and Discovering the Village
We kicked things off with lunch at Between the Trees, tucked inside the stunning Grand Bohemian Lodge — a gorgeous boutique hotel that sets the tone for Greenville's elevated aesthetic immediately. The food was wonderful, but honestly the atmosphere alone was worth the stop.
We checked into the SpringHill Suites Greenville Downtown, which we cannot recommend highly enough. The hotel offered an accessible room with visual doorbell and fire alarms — an incredibly thoughtful touch that made our stay stress-free and inclusive. The location? Absolutely unbeatable. A short, easy walk brings you to Main Street's restaurants, boutiques, and the renowned Peace Center. It's the kind of hotel that makes you feel like you've already won at traveling.
After settling in, we explored downtown Greenville on foot — and this city was made for walking. We strolled down Main Street, marveled at the iconic Liberty Bridge at Falls Park on the Reedy (a genuinely breathtaking piece of urban design built around a cascading waterfall), visited the moving Cancer Survivors Park, explored the Greenville County Museum of Art, and wandered through Unity Park and along the Swamp Rabbit Trail. The Honor Tower, The Commons, PKL Park, and the Southernside neighborhood rounded out a packed, energizing afternoon.
For dinner, we ventured to The Village in West Greenville — a neighborhood that deserves far more attention than it gets. Two stops stood out in a big way:
The Rabbit Hole was an absolute scene-stealer. The decor is an immersive, whimsical Alice in Wonderland fever dream — you'll feel like you've tumbled down the rabbit hole yourself. The mocktails were genuinely impressive. And do yourself a favor: check out the bathroom. Yes, the bathroom. It's adorned with a beautiful mirror and layers of framed artwork that make it oddly one of the most memorable spaces we visited all trip. The Anchorage was a revelation. A true farm-to-table restaurant with excellent food that tasted as thoughtful as it looked. This is the kind of place where you slow down, savor every bite, and wish you had saved more room.
Thursday: Mountains, Waterfalls & a Rooftop Sunset
Back to TopDay 2: Mountains, Waterfalls & a Rooftop Sunset
Day two was when Greenville revealed its greatest secret: it's not just a city. It's a gateway to some of the most breathtaking natural landscapes in the entire Southeast.
Pretty Place Chapel was our first stop, and it was one of the most spiritually moving places we have ever stood. Perched dramatically in the Blue Ridge Mountains with sweeping panoramic views, this open-air chapel at YMCA Camp Greenville is a place where people come to reflect, get married, and simply breathe. One important tip: check their visitation schedule before heading out (campgreenville.org/pretty-place). It's worth every bit of planning.
Caesars Head Overlook was our next stop — and if you're looking for a big view with minimal effort, this is it. An easy eight-minute walk brings you to a stunning overlook with gorgeous views of Table Rock. For the more adventurous, Caesar's Head State Park boasts some of the most beautiful trails in the region and is home to the tallest waterfall in the area. This is not a place you rush through.
We grabbed lunch at Restaurant 17 in Travelers Rest — a charming farm-to-table spot with healthy, fresh options and a beautiful water fountain that makes the outdoor experience feel like dining in a garden. Highly recommended.
Paris Mountain State Park was an unexpected afternoon highlight. We took an easy one-mile hike around Lake Placid and were treated to a gorgeous waterfall right by the dam. It's accessible, beautiful, and the kind of peaceful that genuinely recharges your soul.
For dinner, we split our time between two very different but equally wonderful experiences. Indaco served up outstanding Italian food in a warm, lively atmosphere. Then we ended the night at Juniper — decorated with beautiful spring flower arrangements and offering rooftop views of Greenville that are frankly unfair in how stunning they are. We caught the sunset from up there and agreed: this was one of the great travel moments of our year
Friday: Crepes, Flowers & a Night at the Ballet
Back to TopDay 3: Crepes, Flowers & a Night at the Ballet
We started Friday with breakfast at Tandem Creperie and Coffeehouse — a fun, quirky experience where you order from a vintage VW bus parked outside before heading to a table. The pricing is very reasonable. The crepes were solid and enjoyable, though we'd honestly say they were more charming than jaw-dropping. Still, the experience itself is delightful and worth it for the atmosphere alone.
A visit to Furman University's Bell Tower was a lovely mid-morning detour. There's visitor parking near the tower with a 30-minute window — just enough time to admire the gorgeous campus and get a great photo. Furman is one of those campuses that feels like it was designed to be photographed.
Lunch at Passerelle Bistro gave us something truly special: dining right alongside the waterfalls at Falls Park on the Reedy. The setting is absolutely stunning and will make you feel like you're eating inside a postcard. The food was good, though the atmosphere is really the star here.
One of our most unique and joyful experiences of the entire trip was the Flower U-Pick at Rabbit Crest Farms. For $25, you're handed a vase and set free in a field of gorgeous, colorful blooms. You can cut directly from the ground or select from pre-cut buckets. The staff helped us wrap the flowers beautifully at the end. It was pure, simple joy. One word of advice: if you're flying home, think carefully about how to transport your flowers — getting them through the airport and onto the plane is its own adventure!
Dinner at CAMP was impressive — a modern, thoughtfully designed space with food to match. A great choice before the evening's main event.
And that main event? We attended Ballet Greenville's Cinderella at the Gunter Theatre inside the Peace Center — and it was magnificent. The performance was breathtaking, and as Deaf and hard-of-hearing travelers, we were particularly moved by how accessible it was. Ballet communicates entirely through movement and music, which meant we didn't need an interpreter to understand every emotion and every moment. It was one of the most purely beautiful performances we have ever seen. (The Peace Center also offers interpreter services upon advance request for those who want them — a wonderful and inclusive touch.)
